A Girl Scouts’ Own is a traditional Girl Scout ceremony centered around an appropriate theme. Troops can choose to organize and hold a Girl Scouts’ Own with just their troop or invite other Girl Scouts to participate with them.
When preparing a Girl Scouts’ Own girls choose a theme and plan different ways to celebrate that theme through music, poetry, skits, or stories. Themes can be anything from lines of the Girl Scout Law to general themes like friendship or sisterhood. The girls hosting the ceremony organize their planned comments into a program for the ceremony and assign parts to each participant. Traditionally attendees enter into and exit the ceremony quietly.
In the fall of 2020 a pandemic has forced our service unit to limit exposure among Girl Scout troops and stop gatherings of more than a limited number of people. We thought it may be fun to celebrate a Girl Scouts’ Own virtually. Listed below are several themes for Girl Scouts’ Own ceremonies. We invite the Girl Scouts from our area to click on a theme to enter the ceremony and use the comments to contribute to our LZSU646 Virtual Girl Scouts’ Own. You can contribute poetry, links to music, links to artwork, short essays… whatever you feel suits the theme of the ceremony.
We can’t wait to share in this Girl Scout Tradition with you!
